Hi! I want to tell you about Zion National Park in Utah, which many Americans call their favorite national park in the United States. We’ve heard it many times ourselves in conversations and read about it in rankings. We have been to the U.S. many times, but we could never get to Zion Canyon. Even when it was already an obligatory item in our plan to travel across America by car, weather suddenly interfered and Zion was closed. So we persistently tried to get to this park for the second time, and – yay! – we succeeded. So now I can tell you all the details about planning a visit to Zion Park and the attractions of the unique canyon, as well as such details as how to get to Zion, what to do there and where to stay in the park and near it.

So, Zion National Park is one of the unique national parks in the United States, which is located in Utah. The beautiful Zion Canyon, though not as big as the Grand Canyon – the road inside stretches for 24 km – is so beloved by Americans that everyone puts it first among all the national parks in the States.

The red Navajo sandstone of which the canyon walls and famous cliffs are formed is a multi-million dollar historical legacy of the Colorado Plateau. Zion Park is just at the junction of three geographic landmarks: the Colorado Plateau, Great Basin and the Mojave Desert, so it has a desert climate with a unique ecosystem.

The most famous places in Zion Park are the narrow chain-link trail leading to Angels Landing and the narrow canyon of the Virgin River called The Narrows, where the trail runs right down the riverbed and hikers walk almost waist-deep in water (which is especially cool in the heat). We climbed the cliff from early morning and enjoyed the view of Zion Canyon, but we didn’t get to go deeper into the canyon because the number of visitors was too great.

When is the best time to go
Helpful Tip: Zion is very hot in the summer under the scorching rays of the sun (especially in July and early August). Because of the intense heat, park visitors are constantly reminded to carry a supply of drinking water with them. Although Zion does not appear to be a desert, you can’t let your guard down. After all, it’s almost as hot and dry as Death Valley.

The best time to visit Zion is in the fall (September and October). This time of year, the weather isn’t as hot as it is in the summer and the flow of tourists gradually goes down. We visited Zion in early October, just at the most golden time, and we are happy to share with you all the practical information and show you our photos.

Despite its compact size, Zion National Park is quite diverse and not so small. It consists of several parts, and to examine them all in one day is certainly not possible. Zion Canyon is a must-see, and the rest is up to you.
